Car Seat Quilts for Brayden, Jack and Rhoda

Car seat quilts are very handy because they can't be kicked off by the baby or blown away by the wind. The ~22-25" x 30" quilt size with long ties makes it easy to attach to handles on a stroller, shopping cart, car seat, bouncy seat, etc. It can also be used as a play mat or even a changing pad in a pinch.

I made Brayden's car seat quilt in August 2012 with a monkey theme using sage green, browns and banana yellow accents.

It can be flipped down in either direction so the baby's name can be shown or not...

I printed some labels using Spoonflower and this is the first one I used.

I also made a matching sensory tag blanket.

Jack's gender wasn't known at the time but his shower was done in a Little Golden Books theme.  Remember those books?  The Pokey Little Puppy is my favorite.  I used some official Little Golden Books fabric by Quilting Treasures and various alphabet themed prints to make his car seat quilt in October 2012.

The shower invite requested books so I found a fabric panel for an ABC Animals book in a similar color palette and made that too.

I also made baby Rhoda (last name) a mostly sports themed car seat quilt in October 2012 with special touches of puppies and snowflakes.

The varsity style letters were hand stitched into place.
So cute!

Punk Wristlet for Martha

Martha rides with her husband and had been taking the summer wristlet that I previously made for her.  It looked out of place with the rest of their gear so in July 2012 she requested a new "punk" wristlet and showed me her helmet which has a tonal skull graphic.

For the front panel, I installed grommets and laced it with leather.  I added solid orange fabric behind the grommets so it'd peek through a tiny bit.

I also laced leather through chain to make the wristlet bracelet (had to try a few different styles of chain to get this right).  I used a heavy duty zipper and then pieced scraps of that zipper together to create a tab for the key ring.

I bought some black fabric printed with small white skulls wearing little pink bows for the interior but then I found the PURR-FECT fabric and went in a different direction... Martha is a cat lover and she kindly volunteers at a local shelter regularly.  When I happened upon this kitties riding motorcycle fabric I knew it was meant to be!

Black, White and Red Weekender Tote Bag and Wristlet Set for Archana

I made this set for Archana in July 2012.  Archana's favorite color is red and I knew that she planned to use her weekender tote as her daily work bag.  She wears black to work a lot so I went with this color scheme.

She's a bit of a girly girl so I knew she'd appreciate the prints from the Aunt Millie's Closet line offered by Riley Blake Designs.  I used them for the entire wristlet and also choose the dress print for the pockets inside the tote.

I love this darling purse print!  I have the green version in my fabric stash and am itching to use it.

I used a lock zipper pull on the wristlet and a key zipper pull on the weekender tote.

Happy summer!

I'm back!

So...it's been over a year since I've posted anything on my site. Oops.  :)  I've kept busy sewing for friends and family and we also moved into a new house in January.  I'm mostly settled into my new sewing space now (The Loft) and am planning to use this site to help me keep track of my past creations.  I intend to re-start blogging here by sharing projects from last summer but we'll see how it goes.

Happy summer!
